The Comptroller's Office approves the extension of the UNOPS supervision contract for Circunvalación Norte

The General Comptroller of the Republic authorized the National Roadway Council (Conavi) to extend the contract that expands UNOPS's supervision over the Circunvalación Norte project by $2.8 million, responsible for one of the most important communication routes in the great metropolitan area.

This roadway corridor is financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) as part of Costa Rica's Strategic Road Infrastructure Program.

The amendment extends the deadline to April 30, 2023, the date by which the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) plans to complete the fifth and final section of the project that will connect Calle Blancos with La Uruca.

By mid-2022, the majority of the project is expected to be inaugurated, facilitating the transit of more than 100,000 vehicles daily. The urban ring, which began construction in 1978, will allow for the completion of the national highway Circunvalación 39.
