Procurement of Medical Equipment for
COVID-19 Response
(Completed)
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Health System Improvement Project through the Provision of Medical Equipment strengthened the response capacity of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) during the COVID-19 health emergency. The initiative was made possible through a USD 2.8 million donation from the Government of Japan aimed at reinforcing public health services in the country.
Through the project, electric hospital beds, vital signs monitors, and mobile X-ray equipment were procured and installed across 36 CCSS medical centers. This intervention improved the care of patients with respiratory conditions and strengthened the response capacity of hospitals and mobile units throughout the national territory.
UNOPS’ ROLE
UNOPS was responsible for the project’s end-to-end procurement cycle, including the preparation of technical specifications, tendering and contract award processes, contract management, and the delivery and installation of medical equipment in the healthcare facilities prioritized by the CCSS.
