UNOPS

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has been working in Costa Rica since 2014, supporting various public entities to implement and develop a portfolio of projects focused on road infrastructure, water and sanitation, vertical infrastructure, integrated water resources management, and institutional strengthening.

Currently, we have managed 16 projects and delivered 8 major infrastructure projects to the country.

PARTNERS

UNOPS has signed Memorandums of understanding for the execution of projects with various ministries and autonomous institutions, with whom it maintains a relationship as a strategic partner.

IMPACT
UNOPS AROUND THE WORLD

UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, part of the group of agencies within the United Nations System in Costa Rica.

The UN General Assembly defines UNOPS as the central resource for the UN System in procurement and contracts management, as well as for public works and infrastructure, including capacity-building activities at the national level.

UNOPS is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which encompass the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental. Its goal is to realize the human rights of all individuals, achieve gender equality, and empower all women and girls.

As a United Nations entity, UNOPS is committed to operating transparently and responsibly under the principles of access to information, accountability, and the promotion of open dialogue spaces among different stakeholders to strengthen trust and mutual respect with public and private entities, and the general public.

"Exactly one year ago, we started the construction of the viaduct at the Garantías Sociales roundabout. Today, we begin the construction of the underpass in Guadalupe. Every time the public sees urgent works progressing, trust in our institutions is restored. We will continue on this path, hand in hand with the tireless work of many individuals in the MOPT, CONAVI, and UNOPS. Closing gaps and untangling knots is regaining confidence that Costa Rica can indeed achieve it." - Carlos Alvarado, President of the Republic of Costa Rica.
