Rehabilitation and Expansion of Route 32
(Completed)
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Route 32 expansion project, for which UNOPS provided supervision services, covers 107 kilometers between the Sarapiquí junction and the Port of Limón, one of the main connection routes between the Central Valley and Costa Rica’s Caribbean region. This highway is strategic for both passenger transportation and freight movement, as a significant portion of the country’s imports and exports circulate along this corridor.
The project aims to improve road safety, reduce travel times, and increase the highway’s capacity for heavy cargo transportation. In addition to directly benefiting communities in the province of Limón, the project strengthens connectivity, tourism, and the country’s logistics competitiveness.
UNOPS' ROLE
Construction Supervision Services
CONAVI requested UNOPS’ services to support construction supervision during the final phase of the project in order to ensure contractual compliance and quality control. Its support includes supervision of technical aspects, designs, occupational safety, and social and environmental management, contributing to a safer, more efficient execution aligned with established standards.
