UNOPS role

UNOPS is responsible for reviewing and certifying the design; the bidding process and contract management with the contracting company; and supervising the works, including quality, social, environmental, health, and occupational safety management.

As part of the execution of the work, UNOPS will ensure a continuous social management process aimed at integrating community members into the initiative and encouraging them to take ownership of their Park.

An integral project

The Alajuelita Human Development Park was designed as an inclusive park that will promote social coexistence and the development of local capacities, aiming to reduce gender differences and create more diverse spaces that consider all people's needs. The construction activities in the first phase will take place in the southeast sector of the land and will include two main components: exterior works and a sports core.

Women are a central focus in this project, with the development of activities such as zero tolerance for street sexual harassment at the site; gender awareness training and workshops according to identified needs; and measures for implementing Article 2.1 of ILO Convention 100.

Benefits

The first phase of the Park will feature 1.9 km of pathways for pedestrian, bicycle, and mixed-use, 6 squares, three pedestrian bridges; a rainwater evacuation system, potable water systems for the supply of drinking fountains, and a lighting system; asphalted vehicle parking; a multipurpose court for futsal, basketball, and volleyball (ICODER dimensions); and a three-level skatepark with bowls, ramps, stairs, rails, and whoops.
